Standards
USCLI publishes two kinds of standards: a Code of Conduct that every member will be asked to uphold, and position statements on specific questions facing the profession. Each is dated and open for comment before adoption.

Code of Conduct
Ethical principles, professional standards, prohibited conduct, technology and AI, public communications, reporting, and enforcement. Published for comment October 15, 2026.
Position statements
The positions USCLI takes in public, each with a date, a status, and its reasoning.
Core values
The eight values the Code is built on.
How standards are made
- Draft. A standard is drafted from practitioner input and the existing professional literature of each discipline.
- Comment. The draft is published here with a date and at least 30 days for public comment at ethics@uscli.org.
- Revision. Comments are considered and the draft is revised. Material changes restart the comment period.
- Adoption. Once membership opens, adoption requires approval through USCLI’s governance process. Every version is kept.
